This was a not-to-be-missed opportunity- talking to Nate Dakar, the co-founder and president of Sonya Dakar Skincare at the #NYSpaShow. Nate is friendly, knowledgeable and smart and it was an absolute pleasure speaking with him! He took a few minutes away from the throngs of visitors at their booth to enlighten me about his company and their approach to skincare.
Leena: What does Sonya Dakar skincare stand for? When did the company come into existence?
Nate Dakar: Sonya Dakar started 14 years ago in LA as a cult brand with a huge celebrity following. My father, Israel Dakar is the brain behind all the cutting-edge research in the company. It’s the original luxe corrective skin care brand which addresses specific skin challenges such as age reversal, acne, sensitive skin and scarring/discoloration. We have our own manufacturing facility in LA where they use of the highest grade ingredients of essential oils and food grade ingredients combined with the latest scientific approach to create the most cutting-edge skincare products. We take utmost care to make sure that nothing is outsourced, and next time you’re in LA I’d love to show you our world-class facilities.
Leena: Thanks, Nate! Sonya Dakar unveiled its latest ‘micro-venom’ product today- could you tell me more about it?
Nate Dakar: The latest from the SD stable is the ‘micro-venom’ product which contains two unique and potent ingredients- 1) micro-apple stem cells, which are obtained from a rare Swiss apple that re-generates by itself when nicked. This component when included in skincare products stimulates the regeneration of skin cells and 2) a synthetic micro-venom called SY-NAKE which acts as a topical botox and tightens facial muscles around the eye area and minimizes fine lines and wrinkles.
Leena: Great! Sounds phenomenal. What’s your skincare advice to men?
Nate Dakar: Buy your wife or girlfriend or significant other lots of skincare products– Are you listening, guys? 🙂 On a serious note, it’s very important that all men have a skincare regimen, even if it’s a simple 3 step one, including: cleansing, toning and moisturizing.
Leena: What trends are you noticing in the skincare industry?
Nate Dakar: Customers are demanding strong yet completely safe treatments. Also partly influenced by the economy, consumers are looking for products which have multiple benefits, basically cocktails of high performance ingredients. Women want simple regimens that take less time and are looking for unique characteristics in products. However they are very concerned about safe ingredients, and non-allergenic products.
Leena: How can we keep our children skin protected?
Nate Dakar: I’m a father of a 2 and ½ year old boy and two 9 month old twin girls, and they are an absolute delight! My advice to parents – Always make sure that your children are well protected from the sun. Always apply sunscreen; moisturizing and anti-aging sunscreen on yourself and then for your children. Reapply every hour and also wear hats and avoid over-exposing your children to the sun.
Thank you Nate, for an informative and wonderful interview!
P.S. After the interview, I witnessed a complete facial with Sonya Dakar products including the newly launched snake venom cocktail products and saw a dramatic difference in the facial skin of the volunteer who was willingly agreed to be pampered on stage.
