Age doesn’t just reflect on your face. Your hands are the first beacons of your years, even before your face! Instead of splurging on expensive creams and painful plumping treatments we decided to give you three DIY home remedies that keep together the youth of your hands:)
Start by giving yourself a basic manicure. Plunge your hands in a bowl of warm soapy water. Add some essential oil to get the soothing effect. Apply a cuticle cream and gently push back your cuticles using either a soft flannel cloth or a cuticle trimmer and file and shape your nails. Its now time for the pampering hand spa:
A Well Deserved Soak – Overusing dark nail paint, lack of proper moisturization, nail extensions and using acetone based nail polish removers all contribute to dull and yellow nails. Soak your nails in olive oil on a regular basis to strengthen and hydrate them. Then all you need to do is take half a lemon and massage it on your nails! You can also warm up the olive oil and add a juice of a lemon to make an invigorating hand and nail soak. Soak your hands in this mix for 15 minutes and then massage your hands paying a little more attention to your nails. Wipe off on a warm towel. Your hands will look and feel baby soft!
Exotic Exfoliation – Just like your face, your hands too need regular exfoliation to look and feel younger. To make an exotic and yummy hand scrub you will need ½ cup of brown sugar, 1 tbsp of nutmeg, 3 drops of essential oil of cinnamon, milk to bind the ingredients together and ½ cup of warm milk. Mix all of the dry ingredients together and add some milk to get a scrub like consistency. Fill a bowl with warm milk and add the cinnamon oil. Soak your hands in the milk for 5 minutes and then rub the scrub on to get rid of all the dead skin. Give it another milk soak and wipe off with warm water. Wow! this is such a beautiful treatment for your hands.
Mask Them Up– Make a hand mask using ½ a small avocado, 1 egg yolk, 1teaspook rice bran, 1 teaspoon honey, 10 drops of essential oil of primrose. Massage this mix on your hands and leave it on for about 20 minutes. Rinse off with cold water. This hand mask is great to revive dry, wrinkled and rough hands. The egg and avocado nourishes and tightens the skin, the rice bran exfoliates while the primrose oil provides a generous dose of gamma linolenic acid that maintains skin and nail health.
You also need to make sure that you protect your hands from the sun (much like your face) by applying a sunscreen to avoid age spots! Always make sure that you wear protective gloves while cleaning since cleaning agents like bleach and dish-washing soaps severely dry out the hands. And don’t forget to moisturize!
