Guess what! Super Bowl Sunday is only second to Thanksgiving when it comes to America’s highest calorie-gain day? The average football fan consumes almost 2 days’ worth of calories during the game. Fried and salted, fatty, unhealthy foods and alcoholic drinks add on those inches and play havoc with the health of your skin.
Here are three healthier, skin friendly choices you can make for the Sunday game.

Virgin Mary’s – Keep the cola and the alcohol aside. A great tomato drink is perfect with healthy snacks on Super Bowl Sunday! Packed with antioxidants, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamins B1 and B6 tomatoes are great for skin and the body. Unlike alcohol, tomato juice will keep you hydrated through the excitement packed game.
Ingredients: (Makes 4 servings)
|Fresh juice from 6-8 tomatoes||Salt to taste and frosting|
|2 teaspoons tabasco sauce||Pepper for seasoning|
|4 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce||sprigs of mint for garnishing|
|2 teaspoon of lemon juice||slices of lemon for garnishing|
Blend the tomato juice, tabasco sauce, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, pepper and a pinch of salt in a blender for ½ minute. Frost the rim of the glasses by dipping it in little lemon juice and roll the glasses in salt. Shake the excess off. Pour the juice in and serve, garnish with mint and lemon slice.
Sweet Potato chips with a creamy dip – Chips-n-dip is an absolute must-have on Super Bowl Sunday. Do it the healthier way. Sweet Potatoes are full of beta-carotene and Vitamin A and are extremely tasty to boot! Move over McDonalds.
Ingredients: (Serves 4)
|For the Chips||For the Dip|
|4 pounds sweet potatoes||4 pounds sweet potatoes (roasted and mashed)|
|5 tablespoons of olive oil||One cup low fat yogurt|
|1 teaspoon of chili powder||3 teaspoons honey|
|1 teaspoon of ground cumin||1 teaspoon dried chipotle chili powder|
|Salt to taste||Salt to taste|
Preheat the oven to 250 degrees. Cut the sweet potatoes into round or long, thin slices. In a big bowl, mix the oil, chili, cumin and salt. Add in the sweet potatoes and toss. Place the chips on a lightly oiled baking sheet and roast till slightly brown. Turn over, and brown the other side as well.
For the dip mix the mashed sweet potato, yogurt, chili powder, honey and salt till it is a smooth mix. Take the chip, dip it in and enjoy!
Quick and healthy Chicken Casserole – You don’t want to miss a minute of the game. This chicken-veggie casserole is quick and easy to make and is packed with the skin-friendly goodness of carrots, mushrooms, broccoli and beans with chicken and brown rice. You can simply keep the casserole warm in the oven until you dig in.
Ingredients: (Serves 4)
|4-6 chicken breasts, shredded||1 small broccoli cut into florets|
|2 cans of cream of mushroom soup||50 g French beans|
|Shredded low-fat cheese||2 cups uncooked brown rice|
|2 Diced carrots||1 spoon of paprika|
|100 g of sliced button mushrooms||Salt and pepper to taste|
In a large baking dish, mix all the ingredients except the chicken and the cheese. Place the chicken on top, sprinkle with additional salt, pepper and paprika on it, and garnish with the cheese. Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 1.15 hours. Serve hot.
