Can you drink your way to great skin? Yes! Smoothies are the new mantra for clean, clear and smooth skin! Smoothies are packed with fiber; help in toxin elimination and making your digestive system work smoothly. They are the best way to incorporate the five portions of fruits and vegetables in your eating regime without worrying about munching on and on… By making these a part of your daily diet you easily incorporate the antioxidants, nutrients and vitamins that your body needs for smoothness!

Papaya +blueberry smoothie: Blueberries are packed with antioxidant power and are loaded with phytochemicals. The phytochemicals neutralize the damage caused by free radicals and hence reduce cell damage. They are also a very rich source of Vitamin C, E, Manganese, insoluble fiber and riboflavin all of which boost your skin health and make it look younger and fresher. Papaya is another power fruit that improves digestion and also helps in clearing your pores. This fruit is very rich in Vitamin A, C, E and K, fiber, folate, potassium and the enzyme papin. It is also anti-inflammatory. For this smoothie take,

  • ½ large papaya or 1 small papaya (ripe)
  • 1 cup of fresh blueberries (frozen ones will also do but you can’t contest the benefits of fresh fruit verses frozen.)
  • 30 oz of water

Blend all of these together and drink up!

Carrot+spinach+ cucumber +broccoli smoothie: Spinach is an excellent source of iron, calcium, beta carotene, vitamin C and other minerals. This super veggie is high in phytonutrients which are hugely beneficial for our overall health. Along with this they are also very rich in cell preserving flavonoids. Carrots are an excellent source of Vitamin A, the most important nutrient for good skin. They are also very rich in antioxidants, fiber, biotin, Vitamin B6, C, and K all of which work at maintaining skin health and skin cells. Broccoli is a superstar veggie since it is very rich in dietary fiber, water, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, iron and Vitamin C. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition labels broccoli as the vegetable with the most health benefits. Cucumbers are a great source of Vitamin A and also contain folate, potassium, manganese, silica, and Vitamin C. They are very high in water content and are known for their ability to improve skin health. Cucumbers also provide a nice base for this smoothie. To make this veggie smoothie you need:

  • 1 bunch spinach
  • 1 carrot
  • 1/4th of a small sized broccoli (including stalk)
  • 1 cucumber
  • I tsp. fresh lemon juice
  • 2 inch ginger slices

Combine and blend all of the ingredients together. Top it up with a strawberry slice, sprig of mint leaves and a colorful stirrer.

The Green Smoothie: A green smoothie is a mix of fruits and vegetables and is indeed a power drink. Incorporate as many colors of fruits and veggies in your smoothie for the nutrient and vitamin punch. Here is a recipe for a delicious green drink:

  • 1 bunch of spinach
  • 3-4 stalks of coriander
  • ½ a pink grapefruit
  • ½ apple
  • 1 carrot
  • ½  an orange
  • 1 celery stalk
  • Handful of berries ( strawberries, red raspberries or blueberries)
  • Juice of half a lemon

Make sure all your fruits are ripe for the sweetness. Blend together with some water. The smoothie does look a little too ‘green’ but don’t go by the look of it. It tastes delicious and works its way to great skin!
