Spring is almost here and who does not like the idea of finally getting out of winter clothes. As you look forward to spring and its beauty, remember to spring clean your body and pay attention to your skin. Here are 4 simple ways to prep yourself- from sloughing off the dead winter cells and feeding your skin with good moisturizers.

1. Exfoliate the old: Exfoliation sloughs away old dead skin cells and improves blood circulation which in turn helps in renewing new skin cells. For your body, you can use loofah and pumice to exfoliate depending on how vigorous or moderately you want to exfoliate. Now, for your face skin which is more sensitive, you can use exfoliating scrubs which contains abrasives such as papaya, oatmeal, fine ground rice and tea tree bark. The scrubs come in either foamy or cream base and they are not difficult to use. Exfoliation can be done every second day so that your skin is not irritated unduly. Using natural herbal scrubs are not only deep pore cleansing but can really improve the blood circulation on your face, giving you an instant healthy glow.

2. Cleansing and detoxifying the skin: Now get on with cleansing and detoxing the skin on your face. For this, you need to apply a face mask which can be cream based or gel and made of fruit extracts, nutrient clay, seaweed and healing herbs. They can be used once a week to avoid any irritation to the skin. They can be applied and left to dry on and the washed off with toner or water, although some gel based masks do not dry up as they are basically moist in nature. The mask helps to draw impurities from the skin and will leave your skin feeling refreshed and smooth. For internal detoxification, you can drink plenty of water, eat lots of fruits , do the occasional fasting and eat a healthy diet.

3. Toning your skin: It is essential to tone your skin after exfoliation and cleansing, so that the skin is amply nourished and firms up. Use herbal toners which are safer as they do not dry out the skin, like witch hazel, rosemary extracts, aloe vera and apple cider which does not have an alcohol base. Chamomile oil is most soothing as it has anti-inflammatory properties which are good for the skin. Toning helps in cooling your skin down and gives a very calming effect, as well as replacing the acid mantle to the skin which is lost during exfoliation and cleansing.

4. Moisturizing and nourishing: Now, you can apply your moisturizer, lotions or serum on to your pampered skin for that healthy spring look. Use these daily as they provide nourishing moisture to the skin as well as protecting your skin from the external elements. Choose your moisturizers and lotions carefully and always insist on herbal based products which do not contain any toxins. Good moisturizers help in protecting you from skin damages and premature aging of the skin.
