6 DIY Vegetable Aisle Facials

Let’s face it—you can spend a small fortune on beauty products. And while it’s true that there are many great facials and face masks available that are very effective, there are also some wonderful skin care products in a place that you’re not likely to think of when you think of beauty products— the produce aisle of the grocery store! If you’re feeling a little financially squeezed but still want to pamper yourself with a fun facial, try one of these alternatives to costly products from the cosmetic counter. You might be surprised at how fruits and vegetables can make you beautiful not just on the inside, but on the outside too!

Anti-Aging Pumpkin Mask: Pumpkin and celery work together in this mask to strengthen your facial skin and improve elasticity.

  • ¼ cup canned pumpkin (be sure it’s pure pumpkin and not pumpkin pie mix)
  • 2 tbsp. celery, finely chopped
  • 1 or 2 tbsp. milk

Cook celery in milk over low heat for 10 to 15 minutes or until celery is tender. Add pumpkin and mash to create a paste-like substance. Clean your face thoroughly. Apply the mask and leave on for 2 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

Strawberry Facial- Strawberries and sour cream are effective for lightening dark spots on the skin.

  • ½ cup strawberries, mashed
  • 1 or 2 tbsp. sour cream

Combine strawberries and sour cream to create a paste. Clean your face thoroughly.  Apply the strawberry mixture to your face and leave on for 5 or 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

Cucumber Mask- Cucumbers have long been used to reduce inflammation and shrink pores. They’re also remarkably refreshing!

  • ½ cucumber, chopped
  • 2 tbsp. plain yogurt

Puree the cucumber and yogurt together to form a thin paste. Clean your face thoroughly. Apply the mask to your face and leave on for 5 or 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

Avocado Moisturizing Mask – It’s not too hard to imagine how the flesh of an avocado could moisturize your skin. This mask proves it!

  • ½ ripe avocado, mashed

Clean your face thoroughly, then apply the mashed avocado. Leave on for 5 minutes. Rinse with cool water.

Banana Anti-Wrinkle Mask- Try this mask to help to reduce the appearance of obvious facial wrinkles.

  • ¼ banana, mashed

Clean your face thoroughly, then apply the banana. Leave on for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse first with warm water, followed by a cold-water rinse.

Grape Facial Cleanser- Grapes work as a gentle yet effective facial cleanser

  • 2 to 4 grapes, each cut in half

Wash face thoroughly, then rub the flesh of the grapes over the face.

Most of us know how healthy it is to include plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables in our diets on a daily basis. Its wonderful to use this produce to make make you beautiful on the outside as well! The next time you’re in the market for a little facial pampering, don’t forget the produce aisle. Not only is it easy on the skin,  it’s easy on the pocketbook too.
