At Home Facial With Peppermint

Facials at home can be a relaxing experience, both for your mind and body. Previously thought of as indulgences, today, many people look at facials as being an essential part of a healthy skincare regime.

Facials can increase natural cellular regeneration by aiding in faster skin cell renewal and help make your skin healthy and vibrant. The use of exfoliating, extracting and hydrating helps remove daily impurities to reveal the skin’s natural state.  Not only will you look better, but feel better.

With the popularity of facials prevalent, facials have evolved from merely steaming and extracting to experiences where science, technology and even exotic foods are combined to give your skin the ultimate clean-up.

While researching facials I came across this interesting peppermint facial scrub on that I just had to try.  The recipe is easy to do, and requires a few simple ingredients. What I loved most about this was that it uses peppermint leaves, a leaf known for its medicinal properties, containing Vitamins A and C, magnesium, potassium, inositol, niacin, and iron, this leaf is great for the helping the complexion. Usually associated with trying to naturally remedy acne, it has been used for more than 200 years for treating all kinds of skin diseases.

Peppermint leaves can be found in all regions of the country, which makes purchasing it easy. I suggest going to your nearest farmers market, or large chain grocery to find it.

Do you remember in my earlier post, Facial Tools: The Secret for effective at-home facials I mention the 5 tools everyone should have in their bathroom cabinet to prepare for facials?

Before starting your specialized facial, ensure your face has been cleansed by using your facial sauna. This will help open up your pores, extract any blackheads and ensure your skin is more receptive to the peppermint leaves.  Also, when cleansing the skin of the paste, use the cotton pads to properly remove the paste.  This will avoid you irritating the skin by possibly scrubbing it with your hands and transferring any bacteria or dirt you may have. It will also effectively remove the tiny grains of oatmeal that can easily be left behind.

Follow these easy steps to create an aromatic and healthy facial:

  • Blend 1/4 cup dried peppermint leaves with 1 cup oatmeal.
  • Mix in a food processor or blender to form a coarse, dry mix.
  • Put into a well-sealed jar and use a handful to rub onto wet, cleansed face and neck for a quick facial scrub.
  • Add just enough water to make a thin paste.
  • Stay away from the eye area. Rinse with cool water.
