While drug store and makeup counter beauty products might make big claims about hair and skin care, they can also cost an arm and a leg. But you don’t need to spend a fortune to keep your skin and hair looking its best. In fact, you’ve probably already got all-natural beauty products right in your refrigerator.
Pre-made oatmeal is one of the best things you can put on inflamed, red or irritated skin, as well as itchy or dry skin. Oatmeal works to soothe the skin and reduce redness as well as many over-the-counter remedies, and using leftover oatmeal is incredibly easy. To make an oatmeal mask, simply combine 1/4 cup of cooked oatmeal with 2 tablespoons of water in a blender and puree the mixture. Gently massage the oatmeal mask onto clean skin and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing with cool, clean water.
Yogurt is packed with protein and natural enzymes that you know are good to eat, but yogurt is also excellent to smooth out your complexion and remove impurities. To use yogurt, simply dab a small amount onto your skin and leave it on for 20 to 25 minutes or until it begins to harden. Peel the yogurt off and rinse your face with cool water after the allotted time. For an extra-hydrating mixture, blend the yogurt with a few slices of freshly peeled cucumber.
Avocados are one of the best things you can eat for healthy skin and to promote healthy hair growth because of the natural oils and healthy fats they contain. Avocado can also be used as a topical treatment for your skin and hair. For skin, simply mash 1/2 fresh avocado with the tines of a fork and apply it to your clean skin, leaving it on for about 15 minutes. The natural fats will help make your skin look supple and moist, especially if you apply avocado two to three times per week. For use in your hair, combine 1/2 or 1 whole avocado – depending on the length of your hair – with 2 to 4 tablespoons of all-natural mayonnaise. Gently brush the mixture into your hair, starting from the roots. Wrap a towel around your neck and leave the avocado mixture in your hair for about 30 minutes before rinsing your hair with cool water. There’s no need to shampoo your hair after using the avocado mixture. Using avocado in your hair regularly will keep your hair shiny, supple and thick, while promoting optimal hair growth.
