Do You Need Body Area Specific Skincare Products?

If a lotion moisturizes your legs and feels good, then it seems natural that it would work well on your face too. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. The skin on your face is different from the skin on your legs or feet. Look at your face- the skin around your eyes is more delicate than your chin and has different needs.

For Your Eyes – You want to pamper your eyes and avoid the puffy look, but your face cream probably won’t fit the bill. The cream may contain sunscreens or acids that will irritate your eyes . Your face cream may not work for your delicate skin around the eyes and eyelids. Special lotions that are free of fragrances and preservatives are a great choice for the eyes. There are eye specific products that constrict the blood vessels and help reduce the look of tired eyes. Retinoids are excellent for smoothing skin texture, reducing pores and minimizing wrinkles. However, they could irritate the sensitive skin around your eyes.

Oily Skin and Dry Skin Have Different Needs – If your skin is oily, then you want a light, water based lotion that won’t block your pores but provide your skin with moisture. ( its true- your skin can be oily but needs hydration. Oil and Water content of your skin are two separate parameters ). Dry skin, on the other hand, needs creams that will hold the moisture in. The challenge is that the skin on your face can be oily while the skin on your neck might be dry and needs more oil and moisture. Your skin needs for each area are different.

The Demanding Lifestyles of Hands and Feet Require Special Protection– Your hands and feet are put through the wringer every day. Wearing open shoes in the summer leaves your feet covered with callouses, and your hands can become so dry in the winter that they crack and bleed. Your extremities require special treatment to keep them in top shape. Thick creams that keep moisture in place are the best choice.

You may look at the multitude of lotions and potions and feel that they are all humbug and not necessary for you. However, they do each serve a special purpose. The cream designed to protect your hands and feet with extra moisture can leave your eyes irritated and cause breakouts on your cheeks. Likewise, the light lotion used for oily facial skin won’t properly moisturize your neck.
