When you think of love, you think of roses; when you think of roses, you think of beauty; and when you think of beauty, you definitely think of skin care!
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner with hearts entwined and roses in full bloom. Take some time out for yourself, get creative and show your skin some real love with these great DIY rose treatments:
Your refreshing rose cleanser and toner- This homemade rose toner triples up as a cleanser and astringent. The rose water in the toner helps tighten the pores without drying the skin, the glycerin makes it naturally moisturizing whereas the witch hazel works as an astringent for clear and supple skin.
What you need: 1 cup full of rose petals, 2 cups of boiling water, 6-8 drops of glycerin, ¾ cup witch hazel
Rinse the rose petals and place them in a mixing bowl and pour boiling water over them. Set aside for about an hour. Once cooled, mash the rose petals in the water; strain and squeeze the water out from the petals. Add the glycerin and the witch hazel and store in a sterile bottle.
Your rosy-rub body scrub- Roses and rose oil are great natural exfoliators. They have Vitamin C in them – a powerful antioxidant – that helps reveal younger, supple and glowing skin. Combined with mineral-packed Himalayan salts and moisturizing olive oil, this love-scrub ought to leave your skin wanting for more!
What you need: 1 cup Himalayan Salt, 1 cup dried and crushed rose petals, ½ a cup olive oil, 10 drops of rose essential-oil.
Add the ingredients in a bowl and mix them well. Store in a sterile container and refrigerate. This scrub lasts for about a month and a half when refrigerated.
Your ‘butter-me-rose’ daily moisturizing cream- The anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-aging and moisturizing properties of roses can make your skin bloom like a rose. This daily moisturizing cream containing crushed rose powder, essential-oil and aloe vera gel gives you a clearer complexion and protects your skin from sun damage. The cream’s natural, deep cleansing and exfoliating properties keeps the skin looking younger and hydrated.
What you need: ¾ cup rose water, ¼ cup crushed dried rose petal powder, 10 drops of rose essential-oil, ¼ cup aloe vera gel, 1 oz. beeswax pellets, ¼ teaspoon lanolin, ¼ cup almond oil, ¼ cup coconut oil, ¼ cup olive oil
Combine the rose water, essential-oil and aloe vera gel in a bowl and set aside. In a large bowl, add the oils, lanolin and beeswax pellets and place it over a pan of boiling water. When all the pellets have melted, pour the mix into a blender. Wait till it cools down to room temperature. Next, blend on high speed and slowly pour in the rose water mix in the center. Once the mixture reaches a thick, creamy consistency like butter cream frosting, add in the crushed rose powder. Store in sterile, airtight containers and refrigerate. This cream is good to slather on for over three months when refrigerated.
