Power Packed Veggies To Healthy Skin

veggies

All kinds of vegetables have some or the other vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, enzymes, nutrients, acids that are good for your skin. Moreover, the beauty about vegetables and skincare is that nearly every vegetable is good for any skin type.

Here is mySkin’s peek into your refrigerator for those “power-packed” veggies for healthy skin:

Spinach

No surprises here! Popeye’s favorite greens make him strong and happy-skinned too. Bagging the title of the healthiest plant based foods, spinach boasts of a number of essential nutrients and phyto-nutrients. Apart from being a very rich source of iron, spinach contains antioxidants, Vitamins A, C, E, K, and a host of minerals. For skincare enthusiasts, spinach is the green hero. Just a glass of spinach juice, had daily, helps in combating acne, aging, and promotes skin cell repair and growth.

Sweet Potato

The sweet potato is somewhat of a superhero-stuck-in-the-fridge. It is a rich source of vitamins A, B, C, K and E, Omega 3 fatty acids, health-promoting beta-carotene and anthocyanine, minerals like magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium and zinc. Eat it or apply it, it treats oily skin, works as a skin toner, cures dried,  cracked heels, can be applied to heal dark circles and puffy eyes, fights premature aging, reduces dark spots and works as an excellent moisturizer.

Broccoli

Cute looking green florets they might be, but they are tough fighters (Y) Rich in antioxidants, dietary fiber, vitamins C and E and minerals, broccoli is also rich in beta-carotene, selenium, copper, zinc, phosphorous, amino acids, folate, and omega 3 fatty acids. Broccoli is a natural sunscreen that when applied, protects from UV radiation and fights cancer causing free radicals. Its anti-aging benefits work to fight age spots, wrinkles and fine lines while enhancing your immunity.

Carrots

Want an alternative to those expensive Retin-A creams? Carrots. The doused-in beta-carotene crunchy’s , also contain Vitamin C and potassium. Carrots provide sun protection and prevent free-radical damage. They prevent dryness of skin, pimples, acne, dermatitis, rashes and when topically applied to wounds, have healing properties.

Onions

They make you cry alright, but the simple onions have amazing skin benefits. Filled with antioxidants like Vitamins A, C and E, onions prevent premature aging whether eaten or applied. They have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory qualities that fight acne and pimples. Onion juice, when applied can lighten the skin tone, treat pigmentation and discoloration and are also effective to treat stings and bites.

Fry them, stir them, blanch them, stew them, crunch them, munch them, or eat them raw. Blend them, mash them, peel them, squeeze them, however you like, apply them on! That’s the beauty of vegetables.

When it comes to healthy skin, mother earth’s the limit 🙂
