Makeup bag purge
Take a look in your beauty bag and ask yourself: how old is that eyeliner? It’s easy to forget, but makeup products have a limited shelf life. Mascara, for example, should be tossed after only three months. Most cream-based foundations and lip liners stay fresh for about 6-9 months, while powder-based eye shadows can last for up to 2 years. Go through your makeup bag and replace old products or just get rid of things you no longer use. Let’s face it, there’s no reason to carry around that sample-sized sparkly lip balm for the rest of your life.
If you haven’t tried a Beauty Balm cream yet, jump on the bandwagon in 2016. BB creams have exploded in popularity over the last couple of years, and for good reason. These tinted moisturizers provide coverage while also nourishing skin with antioxidants, vitamins and SPF protection.
Shake up your exercise routine
If you’re one of the millions of people who resolve to exercise more in the New Year, set yourself up for success by spicing up your old routine. Doubling up on the elliptical doesn’t sound like nearly as much fun as starting a new kickboxing or Salsa class… Or maybe you’ll be more motivated when working toward a concrete goal like a spring 5K or triathlon. Whatever you choose, be sure it feels fun and fresh – something that won’t fill you with dread or boredom.
Recommit to your nightly cleansing routine
Washing off the day’s environmental grime and makeup residue is an absolute must for healthy skin. If you tend to skip your routine on late nights (NYE, ahem!), stash some facial cleansing wipes next to your bed to make things easier when the bathroom seems very, very far away.
Resolve to rest! Start 2016 right by prioritizing your sleep. You can do this by creating a new nighttime regimen to follow for 30 days. You might include: a set bedtime, eliminating TV and cell phone use at least 2 hours before sleeping, pre-bed relaxing bath or restorative yoga poses and cutting down on your caffeine intake. Try to get 8-9 hours per night for 30 days and see how you feel at the end of the month.
