DIY: Matzah & egg white facial

Have lots of leftover ingredients in your kitchen from the holidays and no desire to eat them? To help you out, we have found DIY skin care recipes that will help you use up the extra ingredients and improve the look and feel of your skin!

Have a Berry Happy Seder Mask (for all skin types)

1/3 cup of blueberries

2 tablespoons of plain yogurt

1 tablespoon of matzah meal

Place the blueberries in a glass bowl and smash them with a fork. Add other ingredients and mix well. Spread it on your face, neck, or chest. Leave it on for fifteen to twenty minutes. Rinse off with warm water.

Strawberry Fields for Easter (for all oily skin types—also good to use on areas where you have breakouts)

1 egg white

3 or 4 large organic strawberries, hulled

1 tablespoon of honey

Mix all ingredients in a glass bowl until frothy. Blend strawberries and honey. Add mixture and cornmeal to egg white and mix. Apply to a wet, clean face and leave on for twenty minutes. Rinse off with room-temperature water.

We love these recipes from, because of the skin loving ingredients:

Yogurt contains lactic acid, which gently exfoliates the top layers of the epidermis, which can clear up blemishes and discolorations, and may even reduce fine wrinkles.

Blueberries.  The antioxidants in blueberries will help soften skin when used topically.  The vitamin C will also help to protect skin from free radicals, hydrate skin and increase collagen and elastin levels.

Egg Whites are a controversial ingredient in DIY skincare because for some it can cause irritation and breakouts.  However, it has been found to help tighten skin (effect is temporary), draw oil out of pores and nourish skin.

Honey can kill bacteria on pimples and help to purify skin.

Strawberries contain ellagic acid, an antioxidant that protects skin from sun damage and hinders the formation of an enzyme that breaks down elastin and collagen in the skin.
