Whether you’re using natural oils or products from the beauty companies that contain them, you can relax knowing it’s good for your skin. If used properly, face oils can boost the performance of your current routine and take your skin to the next level.

Why are they perfect for spring?

Once considered a must for cold weather hydration, face oils can be used year round. Many oils can easily be absorbed into the layers of the epidermis, making it the perfect carrier to deliver beneficial nutrients and high-tech actives to the skin. Also, newer products on the market are incredibly sheer and non-greasy, so they won’t clog pores,  irritate them or disrupt normal skin function.

Face oils for oily skin?

For oily skin, the right treatment oil will actually result in the normalization of the skin’s sebum production, meaning the skin will actually be less oily. Good facial oils enrich, hydrate, soften and revitalize skin, while also helping to protect from environmental aggressors. For oily and acne prone skin, look for products containing tea tree oil and grape seed extract.

 Perfect for sensitive skin

Natural oils are a perfect match for sensitive or irritated skin because they rarely cause allergic reactions. Without chemical ingredients that sensitive skin cannot tolerate, these oils can calm and repair the skin. Chamomile oil has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, which can calm the skin and fight off infection. Carrot seed oil is rich in vitamin A, beta carotene and emollients, which help normalize skin cell turnover and soothe the skin. Evening primrose oil has long been used to treat eczema, because it contains high levels of essential fatty acids that soothe the skin.

Here’s how you can incorporate beauty oils into your skin care regime:

Hydration helper: After cleansing, if your skin feels too taut and dry, simply pat on a small amount of oil wherever needed.

Moisturizer boost: Skin feeling dry and dehydrated? Add a few drops of oil into your day cream to give it an extra skin-nourishing boost.

Day or Night treat: In place of a serum under your moisturizer, apply to cleansed skin to help strengthen your moisture barrier and target your specific skin concerns while you sleep. There are products on the market that help calm redness, fight free radicals, tighten skin and restore a healthy sheen.

Massage aid: Work a few drops over your face, neck and décolletage (make sure skin is cleansed), breathing deeply for a relaxing experience.
