OKU may seem small and simple, but the technology behind it is anything but. Created after years of research by OKU’s highly qualified team of dermatologists, plastic surgeons, nanotechnologists, scientists and engineers, OKU’s technology is based on the triple sciences of dermoscopy, nanotechnology and spectroscopy.
OKU leverages these three technologies and the over 100 years combined expertise in these areas that 2 of the co-founders, Dr. Djuro Koruga and Dr. Jadran Bandic, bring for the most cutting edge device to measure and track skin health
Dr. Koruga is the Chief Science Officer for mySkin. He is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering and leads the Nanotechnology Biomedical Engineering Group at the University of Belgrade. Dr. Koruga was a Fulbright and IDEX Fellow and serves as a visiting professor to various universities and institutions in the US, Japan, Greece, South Korea, and China as a globally renowned expert in molecular electronics and bioelectronics. He is widely published in over 120 journal and conference papers and has authored over 12 books. As one of the leading experts in the area of biophysics and in the applications of spectroscopy and nanotech, Dr. Koruga’s research has enabled the development of the proprietary technology that powers OKU by enabling epidermal layer characterization by opto-magnetic spectroscopy and Brewster Polarization. Dr. Koruga has enabled mySkin to integrate nanoscience, high–performance computing, with modeling and simulation of complex systems, to develop OKU’s world–class computation, systems engineering, nanobiology, and bioimaging .
As Chief Medical Officer for mySkin®, Dr. Bandic brings over 30 years of clinical and surgical skin experience. Dr. Bandic is an MD in Plastic Surgery and Dermatosurgery and Head of ORS Hospital, Serbia. Dr. Bandic has developed proprietary algorithms and hardware to analyze skin. Over 6,000 patients have benefited from these innovations in Dermoscopy. Dermoscopy refers to the examination of the skin using skin surface microscopy. Dermoscopy is used to evaluate pigmented skin lesions and melanoma by analyzing skin structures and patterns. Dr. Bandic is the President of the Serbian Dermoscopy Association, Board member of the International Dermoscopy Society, Member of the Yugoslav Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, and Member of IPRAS (International Plastic Reconstructive Aesthetic Surgery).
